IYR's YOUTHWORKS! Business Mentor Volunteers Needed!

Project Description:
The Idaho Youth Ranch (IYR) YOUTHWORKS! is a 16 month comprehensive job training and job placement program designed to assist at-risk young people in getting a job, keeping a job and beginning career exploration and development. YOUTHWORKS! offers classroom instruction on job readiness and independent living skills, provides hands-on work experience and professional support and guidance from job specialists and mentors. The mentor’s primary role is to serve as a role model, advocate and advisor to the student during the classroom and job-training phases of the program and for 4 months after the student successfully completes the program. Duties and Responsibilities •Attends the YOUTHWORKS! mentor training program •Commits to spend at least 16 months in consistent contact with assigned student •Makes consistent contact with student by phone, mail and in person. A minimum of 3 contacts per month is required, with one face-to-face meeting •Ability to support, problem-solve, encourage and motivate student •Provides IYR youth specialist with monthly progress and activities reports •Observes all program policies and procedures •Refers student to community resources and provides networking opportunities for career opportunities

Additional Skills Required:
•Be at least 25 years old •Possess a minimum of 5 years work experience •Live in the same geographical area as the student •Agree to and be able to successfully pass a background check •Not be related to or live in the same household as student •Not be a direct supervisor or co-worker of student •Serve as a role model who can demonstrate positive life skills, work ethics and attitudes needed for success
